Solo travel isn't about being lonely - it's about freedom. Travelling alone gives you total control over your time, budget, and experiences.

It can be intimidating at first, but with the right mindset and preparation, solo travel

is one of the most rewarding ways to see the world.

THE BIG 6 QUESTIONS TO BE ASKED:

1) Why should I travel solo?

2) Is solo travel actually safe?

3) How do I stay safe while travelling solo?

4) Will I get lonely travelling on my own?

5) What mindset do I need for solo travel?

6) Where should I solo travel?

So... LETS GET INTO IT!

1) Why travel solo?

  • Complete freedom over where you go, when you move, and how long you stay

  • No compromises on budget, pace, or plans

  • Faster personal growth and self-confidence

  • You become more adaptable and independent

  • Easier to meet new people and start conversations

  • More likely to say yes to new experiences

  • Travel at your own rhythm, not someone else’s

Most solo travellers say their biggest regret is not doing it sooner.

2) Is solo travel safe?

  • Yes - solo travel is generally very safe, especially in popular travel regions

  • Millions of people travel solo every year without serious issues

  • Petty scams are far more common than violent crime

  • Road accidents are a bigger risk than crime in many countries

  • Most problems are avoidable with basic awareness and common sense

Golden rule: if it doesn’t feel right, don’t do it.

3) How do I stay safe while travelling solo?

  • Trust your gut - if something feels off, leave

  • Avoid oversharing your plans with strangers

  • Keep valuables spread out, not all in one place

  • Use reputable accommodation and transport

  • Arrive in new places during daylight where possible

  • Save emergency contacts and documents offline

  • Keep friends or family updated on your location

  • Respect local laws, customs, and dress codes

You don’t need to be paranoid — just aware.
Common sense is your best safety tool.

4) Will I get lonely travelling alone?

  • Almost everyone worries about this before their first solo trip, and that’s completely normal.

  • Feeling lonely from time to time doesn’t mean you’ve made the wrong decision - it’s just part of being human.

  • In reality, most solo travellers are surprised by how quickly they meet people and how rarely loneliness lasts.

  • Travelling alone often makes you more open and approachable, and social interaction is usually easy to find if you want it. At the same time, you’re in full control of your space - you can choose when to socialise and when to enjoy being by yourself.

  • It is incredibly easy to make friends while travelling - especially if you're staying in hostels. You will almost always have people to do stuff with - if you're open to it! However, unless you find some people at the beginning of your trip that you stick with the whole time - there will most likely be times you spend by yourself - whether that be exploring the city, going to a beach or catching a bus to your next location. When this goes smoothly it's fantastic - when something goes wrong and you have to figure it out by yourself, sometimes it can be very very bleak.... but once the situation is sorted - it's an experience to laugh at and what we like to call 'character building'.

  • Many people actually discover they enjoy their own company more than they expected.

  • For a lot of travellers, solo travel doesn’t increase loneliness at all - it reduces it. The fear of being lonely is often far bigger than the experience itself, and once you take that first step, the worry tends to fade fast.

  • That said, we understand you can still feel lonely at times, even when you’re surrounded by people.

5) What mindset do I need for solo travel?

  • Solo travel doesn’t require bravery, confidence, or a perfect plan - it requires openness.

  • The most important mindset is accepting that not every day will be amazing, and that’s okay. Some days will be exciting, some will be quiet, and a few may feel uncomfortable. None of that means you’re doing it wrong.

  • Flexibility is key. Plans will change, things won’t always go smoothly, and learning to adapt is part of the experience.

  • Confidence usually comes after you take action, not before, so it’s normal to feel unsure at the start.

  • It also helps to let go of comparison. Your journey doesn’t need to look like anyone else’s, and you don’t need to be constantly busy or social for the trip to be meaningful. Solo travel is about freedom, growth, and learning to trust yourself — not ticking boxes or chasing perfection.

6) Where should I solo travel?

  • South East Asia is a very easy and enjoyable solo travelling experience. It is incredibly easy to make friends, very easy to get from one spot to another and majority of the locals speak comprehensible English - which further eases the whole experience.

  • For your first solo trip, it’s best to choose a destination with good travel infrastructure, affordable accommodation, and a strong social travel culture.

  • Places where travellers are common tend to feel easier, safer, and more welcoming when you’re on your own.

  • Most importantly, choose somewhere that genuinely excites you. Feeling interested and motivated by where you’re going makes everything else easier. There’s no “perfect” first destination — the right place is one that feels manageable, interesting, and aligned with how you want to travel.
